Autointoxication can be a causative factor in numerous serious illnesses and is considered by many to be
the underlying reason for disease (dis–EASE). It has been said the colon is the largest perpetrator of
disease of any organ in the body and claimed to be the initiator of 80% to 90%of all critical illness.

There are many contributing factors to autointoxication from a toxic bowel. Improper diet, insufficient
exercise, stress, overeating, lack of rest and sleep, and ignoring the "call of nature" can all lead to bowel

Most of us, for instance, have had years of poor nutritional intake. Much of our food is subjected to
extreme processing which includes refining, frying, overcooking, or saturating the mineral elements of our
food with denatured oil or grease. As a result of this food altering, the digestive organs cannot process
the minerals efficiently and they are passed out of the small intestine into the colon as wastes. The
consumption of mucous-producing foods such as refined flour or sugar can cause dense sticky bowel
movements.  Excess mucous in our system is a sign of trouble. Mucousic stools are difficult for the body to

Incompletely digested food can ferment and putrefy
when remaining in the colon too long. When this
fermented waste combines with the body's own bile salts
from the liver, carcinogens can ultimately develop.

Constipation is one of the first signs indicating to us that
our bowel is not functioning properly. When a person is
constipated, the colon can become dysfunctional. This
can render the colon unable to absorb nutrients from
our food in the last phase of the digestive process.
Wastes from the blood stream which should normally be
drawn into the colon through the colon wall are
re-absorbed by the body along with other toxins
resulting from the fermentation and putrefaction of the
incompletely digested food. Subsequently, intestinal
stasis can follow which can effect the muscular
contractions known as peristalsis leaving you with reduced transit and retention times.

A person can even have several bowel movements a day and still be constipated. The movements are
usually smaller and occur more often because the inner diameter of the colon is smaller than it should be.
The body reacts to this constricted bowel by stepping up the frequency of the peristalsis wave action to
allow the waste to exit the body. Taken to its limit, the effect can be diarrhea, which is when the body
moves out the wastes so fast, the bowel doesn't have time to remove the water and consolidate the waste
into stool.

These reasons are why thousands of people each year choose colonic irrigation as a safe, inexpensive
way to improve and maintain good overall health.

Colon hydrotherapy using the Wood Gravitational Method is an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon
of toxins, gas, and accumulated fecal matter. Unlike an enema, it does not involve the retention of water. It
is just a steady, gentle flow of 98 degree water, a few ounces at a time, into and out of the colon through a
closed system. At the same time water is being infused through the sterilized speculum, an abdominal
massage is given to stimulate the colon to recover its natural shape, tone, and peristaltic wave action.

The water introduced during the colonic gently stimulates the natural peristaltic action of the colon and is
then expelled along with fecal material through an outflow tube where it is carried away. Under the control
of a trained therapist, the inflow and outflow alternate, a few ounces at a time,  until the entire colon has
been cleansed. One colon hydrotherapy treatment can have the same cleansing effect of six enemas. It is a
gentle and relaxing procedure that lasts approximately one hour. The client is lying comfortably on a table
and is completely covered at all times.

Some other terms used to describe colon hydrotherapy are colonic, colon lavage, colon irrigation, and high
enema.  While enemas are great to relieve a problem, colon hydrotherapy is considered to be stimulating
and restorative.  References to colonic irrigation can be found as far back as 1534 BC in the Egyptian Ebers
Papyrus.  The Essene Gospel of Peace refers to a similar procedure practiced by the Essenes over 2000
years ago.  Needless to say, colonics have been around for a while.

A person receiving a colonic lies on a table 19" below the temperature-controlled input tank. A sterilized
speculum is gently inserted a few inches into the rectum. Water flow, which is always under the control of
the practitioner, flows into the colon via a small water tube and out through the evacuation tube carrying
with it fecal material and mucous. As the water flows out of the colon, the practitioner gently massages the
abdomen to help the colon release its contents. It is possible to see this expelled waste matter when it
passes through a special viewing window in the evacuation tube. The person is well covered and their
modesty is given top priority during the procedure. The colonic process takes about an hour.

The number of treatments will always vary with the individual and his/her condition. Often the colon is
sluggish, and it may take a series of colonics to sufficiently tone and stimulate it. Some people may only
have minimal results for the first few treatments. This is why a series of treatments
is advisable. Colonic irrigation is most effective when employed in combination with
exercise, plenty of fresh air and sunshine, rest, relaxation, adequate sleep, and a
proper diet of non-mucous producing foods.  Lifestyle changes can be necessary to
assist in restoring proper bowel function.

A suggested series would be two colonics per week for three (3) weeks. Once the
colon is functioning well, it is advisable to have a colonic every few months to
maintain the environment. A good time is at the change of seasons when diet and
exercise patterns often shift. You should always have a series of colonics during, a "fast" or a "cleanse" to
hasten the removal of toxic waste. One or two would also be beneficial during the cold and flu season.
Anytime you feel sluggish, fatigued, or achy is an excellent time to take a treatment.

By cleansing and stimulating the colon, colonics may offer relief from a variety of disturbances. Chronic
joint pain, fatigue, gas, headaches, irritability, skin problems, cold hands and/or feet, and lethargy are
among the many problems people have found helped by colon cleansing. Frozen shoulder, migraine
headaches, and hot flashes have been shown to respond remarkably well to colonics. Constipation, of
course, is another condition, as well as chronic diarrhea, that can be helped dramatically by hydrotherapy

There is now emerging evidence that the colon plays a major role in your body's serotonin signaling and
the coordinated interplay of your enteric nervous system and your cerebro-spinal nervous system, which
also includes your autonomic nervous system. Your sense of well being is often dramatically improved with
colonic irrigations. You feel lighter and more energetic. The body can again assimilate food and better
defend itself against disease.

Natural peristalsis, tone, and regularity can be restored and many serious diseases may be averted
through this gentle, sterile, scientific technique. Colonics are a key factor in the restoration of the body's
natural balance or what we call good health.

Most of the side effects are positive such as a sense of overall lightness and clarity. It is not uncommon,
however, for some people to start to feel like they have a cold, headache, or fatigue after a colonic. Toxins,
which have been lying dormant in the colon, are now being flushed out and a small amount may be re-
absorbed into the body’s system. This healing crisis passes quickly and the person will realize a feeling of
well being with further treatments.

No – quite the contrary!  One of the duties of the colon is to gather and produce the intestinal flora needed
for it’s proper functioning. When poor bacterial balance in the bowel
leads to dysbiosis, it is difficult for the colon to function normally and the glands
in the lining cannot produce the necessary intestinal flora. The resulting lack of
lubrication intensifies a state of constipation and generates toxemia. This upsets
the normal acid-alkaline balance and the growth of the friendly bacteria is
stunted. Cleansing the colon will help bring the acid-alkaline ratio back into
balance. In this environment, the friendly bacteria will again thrive and
disease-causing bacteria will find it difficult to develop.

The bacterial balance of the colon is just now being studied for its impact on
mental disorders and other more serious conditions such as Autism and .
Attention Deficit Disorder. Just as a bath or a shower helps to restore the bacterial balance outside the
body, a colonic can aid in restoring a healthy bacterial balance inside the colon.  It is not uncommon for
someone to report after receiving a small series of colonic irrigations that their bowel movements no
longer produce an offensive odor.

Laxatives and many oral colon cleansing products, even natural ones like senna and cascara sagrada, are
known to create physical dependency and cause damage to the delicate enteric nerves. With frequent or
prolonged use, dosages must be increased in order to maintain an effect. Laxatives not only create greater
activity of the colon, but they also have this same effect on lymph flow and other organs of the body,
stimulating them to overload the system with toxins.  Too many toxins in the system actually over-burden
the colon and make it less efficient at eliminating the poisons.

Why Colonics?

The desire for good health is something we all share. We spend thousands of dollars treating disease
and a portion of our incomes to health insurance providers to cover our expenses for cancer, heart
disease, diabetes, and many other health problems. Yet, very little is invested in the prevention of
disease, which costs far less than the treatment.

Many of us don’t realize how a few changes in our eating and personal care
habits can reduce the risk for many of these life threatening illnesses so
                                    common in our world today.

While few would argue the importance diet plays in our health, the removal of
toxic waste from our bodies is important as well. As a matter of fact, good health
is as much a function of how well we eliminate wastes from our bodies as it is of
                                    how well we eat.

Just as external hygiene facilitated by the use of indoor plumbing produced the biggest boon in life
expectancy in our history, we may achieve great health when we get our internal hygiene in order.

The colon is a tube approximately five feet long and 2 1/2 inches in diameter. A healthy colon has uniform
size and tone. It extends from the cecum, where it joins the small intestine, up and
across the abdominal cavity and down the left side of the body until it reaches the
sigmoid and rectum.

The main known functions of the colon are:
The final digestion of our food
The filtering of high molecular weight mucous molecules from the blood
     The finer eliminations from lymph
     The elimination of digestive residue
The discharge of toxins and wastes
The production of many of our vitamins and neurotransmitters

We experience better health and well being when the colon is clean and
functioning normally. When the colon is congested with stagnant wastes, poisons back up into our
system and pollute the inner environment. This is called autointoxication which literally means "self-
